San Antonio 9 11 Memorial

The San Antonio 9 11 Memorial Educational Initiative

The San Antonio 9/11 Memorial was completed on 9/10/03 and dedicated on 9/11/03 to the victims of the infamous 9/11/01 attack on the United States. “We will never forget”.

Every year ceremonies of remembrance are held at the San Antonio 9/11 Memorial.  Since 2007 the ceremonies have been held in conjunction with a city-wide observance in San Antonio organized by Rabbi Aryeh Scheinberg of Congregation Rodfei Sholom in San Antonio, Texas.  The Memorial itself is only a small part of the mission of the San Antonio 9/11 Memorial Educational Initiative.

Mission Statement

To be a guide for present and future generations, as an advocate and a resource for homeland security initiatives, through education and partnerships.

The San Antonio 9/11 Memorial Educational Initiative proactively sought to implement the Homeland Security ideal presented by President George Bush and backed other members of the community to develop the Alamo Area Regional Citizen Corps Council.  This council brings together leaders from law enforcement, fire, emergency medical and management agencies, local elected officials, volunteer organizations and the private sector to strengthen Citizen Corps programs at the state and local level and engage citizens in homeland security.   As active members of San Antonio Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (SAVOAD) we have participated in response to disasters and disaster planning as well as holding training sessions for Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) under the auspices of the Citizen Corps to train and equip citizens to be able to respond appropriately in time of disaster.

We provide school, university, business and community organization tours and forums with interest appropriate educational sessions. Guided tours of the Memorial are offered by appointment.  We also arrange educational tours and presentations of Homeland Security/CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Training or UTSA's Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (Cyber Security Industry Workforce Development Sessions) Basically they want to offer high school Juniors/Seniors the opportunity to get college level training for 2 years in the field of computer security, without charge, while they are completing their high school requirements for graduation.  Then they will be able to enroll at UTSA and get up to a Doctorate in this field if they so choose.  This education is in demand in San Antonio because of the Military and all the businesses associated with the Military and Security.

Our next goal in this initiative is to provide an Educational/Visitors/Training Center. This facility will be supplied with interactive displays to teach children what happened on 9/11 and to provide further training opportunities.

Any group at a minimum of ten people may book a tour and a presentation by calling 210-675-4023.
